Having dry skin growing up, I always longed for that dewy, soft and supple skin. I have tried several body lotions and oils but nothing gave me the desired result. Plus, it’s an exceptional challenge to wear thicker lotions in humid Malaysia.
I even went to a dermatologist who suggested me a few things but those were expensive and had chemicals. One fine day, while scrolling through my Facebook feed, I saw an advert for St. Ives Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub. The product claimed to be 100% natural with no added preservatives. Moreover, it was affordable and accessible in department stores so I decided to give it a try.
Using the Body Scrub
I’d like to start with saying that this isn’t the first time I’m using a body scrub. I have tried all the fad before from oats to salt scrubs. However, this is definitely the first time I’m using a body scrub with a particular skin concern.
The first time I used it, the smell of mandarin oranges hit me first. It was quite a refreshing scent to start my day with. The texture of the scrub is also not too harsh on the skin. I could feel the beads but they were smooth and not abrasive. My target areas are my elbows and shin, where dry skin is most visible and severe.
After rinsing off the product, my skin felt softer to touch. I wasn’t expecting much from just one usage but I was pleasantly surprised. Note that the immediate effect can also make you think of using the scrub every day. This, I tried to avoid as best as I could to avoid doing more harm than good to my skin.
One Week In

After using the body scrub for a week (thrice a week), I started to see small changes in my skin texture. My skin looked brighter and smoother. The best part was that my dry patches were gradually disappearing. I no longer had to deal with ashy knees and elbows!
I was very pleased with the progress but I knew from experience that this is just the beginning.
One Month In
A month into using the body scrub and my skin looked and felt amazing! All my dry patches were gone and my skin felt softer, smoother, and healthier. My skin also didn’t feel as tight as before, probably because all the dead skin cells were exfoliated away.
I’m really glad I decided to give this product a try. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also natural and gentle on the skin. If you’re dealing with dry skin like me, I would highly recommend giving this body scrub a try! You won’t regret it!
I am now alternating three brands of body scrubs, all of which are gentle and made from natural ingredients.

Other Tips
I’d like to think that the positive results were also due to my consistent skin care habits along with using the right products. Here are more tips to make the most out of your body scrubs.
Use a body scrub that is suited for your skin type
If you have sensitive skin, go for a body scrub that has smaller beads. You can also start gradually and see any bad reaction from your usage. Since I have dull and dry skin, I went for body scrubs with moisturizing ingredients.
Follow up with a moisturizer to lock in hydration
This is important for all skin types but it’s especially crucial for those with dry skin. I like to use body lotions or oils right after I shower while my skin is still damp. This helps to lock in the moisture and keeps my skin hydrated all day long.
Avoid Hot Showers
Hot water can strip away the natural oils from your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. Opt for lukewarm water instead to avoid further drying out your skin.
Be Consistent
For best results, use your body scrub at least 2-3 times a week. I like to use mine every other day for optimum results. The key is to find a balance that works for you and your skin type.
Conclusion
I’m really glad I decided to give body scrubs another chance. They have definitely helped to improve my skin condition significantly. If you’re dealing with dry or dull skin, I would highly recommend giving them a try! Just remember to be consistent and follow up with a good moisturizer.
